What Is Strikethrough Text?
Strikethrough is text with a horizontal line through it, like this: crossed out. It looks like something has been deleted or checked off.
Common uses:
- Corrections: showing what was wrong while keeping it readable, so you can see what changed
- Completed tasks: crossing items off a list
- Humor: saying something and then "taking it back" is a popular move on social media
Strikethrough on Different Platforms
Some platforms support strikethrough natively. On WhatsApp, wrap text in tildes: ~text~ becomes text. Discord uses double tildes: ~~text~~.
On Instagram, Facebook posts, and X, there's no built-in option. Unicode strikethrough characters work instead. These are regular characters with a combining strikethrough mark, so they display correctly anywhere you can paste text.
